Sham Zurich: Syrian Restaurant Near Zurich Central Station

The concept behind Sham

Five years of Sham Restaurant! To celebrate the anniversary, Dilo has expanded the restaurant, creating more space for groups and your next celebration. Located on Konradstrasse, just a few steps from Zurich Main Station, Sham brings the flavours of Syrian cuisine right into the heart of the city.

Dilo runs the restaurant with a lot of heart, supported by head chef Ziad and the entire team. What I particularly like is the personal atmosphere. Everyone is super friendly, and you can tell that a lot of passion goes into everything that comes to the table.

Sham opened in 2021 with the aim of bringing Syrian cuisine to Zurich. The team focuses on fresh ingredients and homemade dishes. Even Dilo’s father lends a hand by providing fresh vegetables. I love seeing a restaurant run so personally, with several generations working together.

The stylish yet cosy restaurant is a lovely place for a meal with friends, a family outing or an evening with a larger group. It is also a great option for families with children.

Food at Sham

Mezze are at the heart of Syrian cuisine. These small, hot and cold dishes are perfect for sharing and enjoying together. From creamy hummus and flavourful muhammara to falafel and stuffed vine leaves, there is plenty to discover.

If you can’t decide what to order, I recommend the Sham Mezze Selection. It brings together a variety of Syrian specialities and is ideal if you want to try different flavours.

Alongside mezze, the menu also features grilled dishes, salads and traditional Syrian main courses. Options include chicken or beef shawarma, grilled meat skewers and musaka with aubergine, peppers, chickpeas and tomato sauce.

Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for, too. Many dishes are naturally vegetarian or vegan, including hummus, falafel and various vegetable dishes.

What I particularly appreciate is that the food is freshly prepared and homemade. It is a great way to discover the variety of Syrian cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.

My recommendations at Sham

If you are visiting Sham for the first time, I would start with the Sham Mezze Selection. It is a great way to enjoy a variety of hot and cold Syrian specialities with your dining companions.

I can also recommend the shawarma plate. If you prefer a vegetarian dish, try the musaka with aubergine, chickpeas and tomato sauce.

Another plus is that hot meals are served continuously until 9 pm on opening days. This is especially convenient if you prefer to eat a little later.

Congratulations to Dilo and the whole team on five years of Sham Restaurant! Here’s to the next five years and many more delicious visits.
