Osso: Addictive sourdough bread and a Tavolata to fall in love with
Concept Osso
Just a ten minute walk from Zurich's main train station, Osso is a restaurant built around one central element: fire. Behind the concept are Eva and Sanne, who, together with their team, have created a place where honest cooking, quality ingredients, and a relaxed atmosphere take center stage.
One of the first things you notice when entering is the open kitchen. Guests can watch the chefs cook, grill, and plate the dishes, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. During winter, the large fireplace in the dining room adds even more warmth and charm, making Osso a place where you naturally want to stay a little longer.
The restaurant is spacious and offers plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. This makes it a great choice not only for a dinner for two, but also for larger groups, business dinners, or your next apéro with friends and colleagues.
Food at Osso
At Osso, fire plays a leading role. Many dishes are prepared directly on the wood grill, giving them a distinctive depth of flavor and subtle smoky notes. The kitchen focuses on high quality ingredients and uncomplicated dishes that let the products shine.
One of the highlights is the homemade sourdough bread. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor. It is one of those breads that makes you reach for another piece even when you are already full.
I can especially recommend the tavolata, which is available as a two or three course sharing menu. It is the perfect way to experience a variety of dishes together around the table. One absolute must try is the beef tartare, which is among the best I have had in Zurich.
Osso is also a great lunch spot. The regularly changing lunch specials keep things interesting and make it a place worth returning to throughout the week.
My Recommendations at Osso
If it is your first visit to Osso, I would definitely recommend the tavolata. Sharing several dishes is a great way to discover the kitchen and enjoy the experience together.
Make sure to order the homemade sourdough bread and the beef tartare. Add one of the dishes from the wood grill and you will have some of the restaurant's biggest highlights on your table.
During winter, try to get a table near the fireplace. In summer, the outdoor seating area is equally enjoyable.
For me, Osso is a restaurant that combines uncomplicated dining with excellent craftsmanship. It is just as suitable for a quick lunch as it is for a long and relaxed evening with friends.
