555+: Thai Essen wie in Bangkok
Concept 555+ Thai
With 555+ Thai Food, Zurich has gained one of the most exciting Thai restaurants in the city. The concept originally started as a pop up and quickly built a loyal fan base. Since the end of 2023, 555+ has found its permanent home at the Greulich Design Hotel in District 4 and it fits perfectly there.
The moment you walk into the restaurant, it feels like a little trip to Bangkok. Colorful plastic tablecloths, vibrant plates, napkin holders on the tables, and an intentionally casual atmosphere instantly remind you of Thai street food markets. That is exactly what makes it so charming. It feels playful, lively, and at the same time incredibly authentic.
Behind the concept is Dominic Fuchs, who spent many years in Bangkok and Koh Samui and wanted to bring exactly those flavors to Zurich. This is not Europeanized Thai food, but honest Thai street food with bold flavors, spice, and authentic recipes. Curry pastes are made fresh, stocks are cooked in house, and herbs are prepared fresh every day.
What I especially like is that despite being located inside a hotel, the restaurant does not feel stiff at all. It feels more like a vibrant food spot where you quickly forget that you are actually in the middle of Zurich.
Food at 555+ Thai
At 555+ Thai Food, everything revolves around classic Thai street food dishes that are packed with bold flavors and bring together that typical balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy.
The menu is intentionally kept rather small, but that is exactly what makes it exciting. Many dishes are perfect for sharing, which is something I would definitely recommend here.
One of the highlights is the Laab, which is highly praised by many guests. If you enjoy spicy food, you will definitely love it here.
And make sure to save some room for Mango Sticky Rice at the end. For me, it is one of those desserts that always works.
My Recommendations at 555+ Thai
If it is your first time here, I would definitely recommend ordering several dishes to share. That is simply the best way to enjoy Thai food.
My personal favorite is the Carefree Package for the whole table, which includes more than 8 dishes to share, rice, and water for CHF 79 per person. For an additional CHF 30, wine, beer, and cocktails are included as well. For kids, there is an all you can eat menu for CHF 8.
And if Mango Sticky Rice is on the menu, definitely order it.
The terrace is especially worth visiting during summer. A drink in your hand, Thai food on the table, and the relaxed atmosphere. Perfect.
