Khouris Zurich Seefeld: Palestinian cuisine just like at home

Concept at Khouris Restaurant

Khouris has been turning heads in Zurich for a while now – just not always in the same place. What started as a pop-up quickly built a loyal community. And now it’s clear: Khouris is here to stay. You can now find the restaurant permanently in Seefeld, Zurich, in the former Iroquois location.

Behind the concept is the Khouris family. The same family also runs Palestine Grill on Langstrasse and Samigo Amusement by Lake Zurich. But Khouris feels even more personal. It’s not just about the food here – it’s about a feeling: it should taste like home.

And that’s exactly what you notice the moment you walk in. Oriental rugs, warm colors, lots of little details – nothing feels overly styled or staged, just real. And right in the middle of it all: Mama Khouris, also known as Susan. She’s a host with heart and makes you feel instantly welcome, almost like you’ve been invited over to a friend’s place.

Food at Khouris

The kitchen at Khouris is rooted in Palestinian cuisine– honest, aromatic, and full of tradition. There’s no attempt to reinvent things here, but rather to bring the best of their culture to the table.

Many dishes are made for sharing, which fits perfectly with the concept. You order several plates, place them in the middle, and try everything together. Just like you would at home.

One definite highlight happens outside: the chicken grill in front of the restaurant immediately catches your attention. You can smell it in the air, and you already know what you’re going to order. Then there’s the shawarma spit – juicy, flavorful, and exactly how it should be.

Alongside the meat dishes, there are also plenty of vegetarian options that are not just “sides” but proper dishes on their own. Everything is richly spiced but never too heavy – more the kind of food that makes you want to keep eating just a little bit longer.

My Recommendations at Khouris

If it’s your first time at Khouris, I’d do exactly what makes the most sense here: share.

Definitely order a variety of dishes and eat together– that’s the best way to really experience the cuisine. Mezze are always a great place to start.

My personal highlight: everything from the grill. Especially the chicken straight from the outdoor grill – incredibly juicy and full of flavor. And if you like shawarma: don’t skip it. It’s truly next level here.

And then just take your time. Don’t rush in and out – stay, talk, order another dish. That’s exactly what this place is made for.
