Garhwal is the new Kerala ;-) Indian food in Zurich

Concept and service at Garhwal

The Garhwal restaurant in Schwammendingen is completely unassuming from the outside, but well worth a visit or two. The Rawat family warmly welcomes every guest and spoils them with Indian delicacies. In the kitchen, brothers Rajender Singh and Narendra Singh, chefs with many years of experience in Indian cuisine, work their magic.

Head chef Rajender Singh has more than 30 years of culinary experience, honoring his father, the late Chattar Singh, who was a celebrated chef in India, Muscat, Germany, and Hong Kong from 1949 to 1994.
Head chef Narendra Singh also brings more than 20 years of experience to the table and contributes his own heritage of flavors and techniques.

Together, they form a strong culinary duo: Rajender refined his craft for almost 16 years at the Kerala restaurant in Zurich, and Narendra devoted around 9 years to the same prestigious establishment. Ujla Devi Rawat, supported by her sons Vikash and Akash, completes the family and ensures that every visit is as enjoyable as the taste of the dishes.

Garhwal uses fresh ingredients sourced daily to ensure the quality of its food. The menu pays homage to the culinary treasures of the Garhwal region, from the peaks of the Himalayas straight to your plate.

Dining at Garhwal

The menu at Garhwal includes a wide selection of classic Indian dishes. Highlights include the famous curries, tandoori specialties, and freshly baked naan in various varieties, which come straight from the 300-degree tandoori oven and are therefore crispy and light and airy at the same time.

The homemade sauces, which complement the dishes wonderfully, are particularly noteworthy. The dishes are perfectly seasoned, allowing the flavors to come into their own and the spiciness to be adjusted to suit individual tastes. The vegetarian dishes are just as varied and tasty. From different dal variations to vegetable curries, you will find numerous creative and delicious options here.

My tip at the Indian restaurant Garhwal

Starters:
“Tikki Papdichaat” – a typical street food snack that can be found on every street corner in India. Pahadi Bhajia is also one of the highlights: fried onions coated in a crispy batter made from chickpea flour, served with delicate chutneys as a dip.

For the main course, I love the chicken tikka, which is served sizzling on a hot stone. I always order garlic naan and raita to go with it.
